Crazy Camping

For the past 20 days we have been camping in Namibia in this crazy camping truck on this crazy trip around the world with this crazy idea of camping in a savanna. I’m going to tell you almost EVERYTHING.

The first place on our way to Namibia from South Africa, was a campsite on a farm. And there we threw the ball, played Yahtzee, and rested. And then we went to another farm where we fed the goats (fun), played Yahtzee (fun), and made a fire (fun). And then we got a tour of the farm (cold). And we got one flat tire. And then we went through immigration which got us to Namibia, it took awhile and WAS NOT FUN AT ALL.

Then we went to a place which was not on a farm and there we planned to go canoeing but in the morning we didn’t want to because it was too mosquito-y. From there we went to a place which was one of my favorites, but in the middle we went to Fish Canyon and got another flat tire.

The fourth place we stayed, which was one of my favorites, had a pool and it was VERY refreshing because it was SUPER HOT. We also got apple strudels 3 each to be exact and Meisie (the Meisie that we met in Namibia not my aunt Macey) told us about a LOT of stuff. And Wally (who is sombody that worked there) gave us free chips.

Then we went to Luderitz, a town on the coast where we tried to see a ghost town but you had to pay extra to get in, so we didn’t. Then we went to see Shark Island where there were absolutely no sharks at all.

Then we went to a campsite in the dunes where we got up early and saw the sunrise and climbed the sand mountains and slid down the sand mountains. It’s called Sossusvlei. A springbok ran past Leo which at first we thought was an oryx but then we looked at the video and it was definitely a springbok antelope!!!

We decided to stay at a hostel in Swakopmund because we were so tired and we were going to stay there for one night but we decided to do it for two nights. We also watched the Timberwolves game (they won).

Then we went to a cafe that just opened the day before but they didn’t have much yet because it was the soft opening. And then the next day we went to the same cafe and it is my new favorite restaurant because they have bubble gum milkshakes and French toast sticks.

Then we took a long drive and on the way we stopped at a shipwreck and saw a LOT of seals. And they were really stinky. Also, if you just took an audio recording you would think it was a goat or a sheep. One of their flippers was through the gates and we all touched it.

After that we tried to go wild camping but while we were playing Yahtzee a car pulled into the area and told us that we couldn’t camp there. So we followed them to a nearby campsite where we saw elephant tracks. Wild camping is camping in nowhere, not a campsite.

Etosha Trading Post was my personal favorite place we stayed in Namibia. It had a really nice pool and there was a big roof at the campsite that protected us from the rain, sorry I said that wrong, the HARD rain. And that was another crazy part of this trip!!!

Then we stayed at Okaukuejo which was a campsite inside of the Etosha National Park where we went on a safari.

On the 5  times we went on the safari we saw animals like:

level 1: springbok, zebra, wildebeest and giraffe.
level 2: oryx, jackel, baby wildebeest, and baby giraffe.
level 3: rhino, ostrich, and mongoose
level 4: hyena, leopard, lion and cheetah.

See, I told it was crazy. Especially the fact that we were sleeping in tents on top of a truck, which was suprisinly cofertable.

Well folks another dramatic day is done, and will the mg gap year get more exiting and crazy than this? Tough to say.
