Budapest, Hungary.
Every city has its own feel and flavor. The streets, rivers, storefronts, history, language, size, and layout create a movement unique to that place. Budapest wasn’t on our must-visit list and we stayed mostly to break up the travel distance between Romania and Slovakia, but getting a feel for the uniqueness of Budapest was a welcome addition to our itinerary.
It was nearly midnight when we arrived by train, so went straight to our hotel and straight to bed. The place was much smaller than what appeared in the photos, the sofa
bed took up most of the living space. We wondered if there would be enough space for all of us to open our suitcases at the same time!
We spent one full day out in the city seeing the sights. The cities of Buda on the west of the Danube and Pest on the east, combined to become Budapest in 1873. Buda is hilly and residential, Pest is flat with a lively night life. We walked past the Hungarian Parliament, St. Stephen’s Basilica, the Holocaust Shoe Memorial, and Buda Castle. The highlight, however, may have been our food discoveries: chimney cakes and a pirate restaurant.
