Elephant joy
Chiang Mai, Thailand
Standing face-to-face with an elephant is an incredible feeling. Or, maybe more accurately, getting stared down by an elephant. They are so huge. So smart. The end of their trunk is like a hand, as dextrous as fingers. They flap their ears when they’re happy, like a cat purring. I loved the feel of their thick skin, and the leathery polka-dot patterns I realized they have only after being so close. Big and beautiful.
They whole day was just so great. I also forgot about making. I just love making things. Given time and space to imagine, arrange, glue things. The boys and Josh had their own design ideas which evolved and took the whole time we had there to complete. And out of elephant poo. The sustainability, the creation of a day’s theme is thrilling. It reminds me to find activities on our travels where we can make things together.
