Kerala, India.

Kerala was the perfect antidote to Varanasi and Delhi. Our nervous systems needed the rest and it widened our perspectives of India beyond hordes of people in frenetic cities. India is also chill and beachy. We landed in the city of Thiruvanathapuram (an exciting pronunciation to master) and drove 1 1/2 hours north to Odayama Beach in Varkala.

The Indian Ocean bobbed with perfect bathwater-temperature waves. The beach stretched out long with dramatic cliffs covered in palm trees as bookends, with very few people on the beach and soft black-and-tan sand extending as far into the water as we could touch. For 6 days on repeat we rested, body surfed, read, and ate meals on the beach. Just what we needed.
