Lake Naivasha, Kenya.
From Nairobi we drove a few hours north to the Great Rift Valley and spent 5 days at an Airbnb overlooking Lake Naivasha. The car we rented barely had the bottom clearance needed to withstand Kenyan back roads, but even through some major wince-worthy scraping, we made it back with the undercarriage intact. A Kenyan miracle.
Nearby Mount Longonot is rated as a “hard” hike on AllTrails, but we’ve gained confidence in our hiking on this trip so we gave it a go. The route is up, around the top of this inactive volcano, and back down. An almost total shade-less climb in the oppressive heat, we made it up, part way around, and back down and still considered it a success.
