North Macedonia.
Another Balkan gem: North Macedonia. (By the way, there is no country called South Macedonia. Macedonia is the name of a region in Greece and the Greeks argued hard against the new, post-Yugoslavia country calling itself Macedonia. Hence, North Macedonia but no South.)
Lake Ohrid borders North Macedonia and Albania, and the town of Ohrid is where we stayed for three nights. It has a
lovely old town and you could sit at its beautiful lakefront for hours. Having swam mostly in oceans as of late, we missed the saltwater buoyancy but lake life has its own charm, like still water and frogs on the shore.
Even with all Ohrid has to offer in the way of history, water activities, and dining out options, it is very affordable. Top scores for Ohrid!
