Southern Turkey.
There are dozens of lovely beach towns along the southern coast of Turkey. We decided to stay in Fethiye (FET-ee-eh) due to its smaller size and because we found a spacious, affordable Airbnb there just blocks from the waterfront.
From Fethiye we launched out to Saklikent Gorge, Kabak Beach, and Öludinez Beach for a day on the boat.
Saklikent Gorge is an out-and-back hike through cloudy waters, so you never know quite how deep it is!
Kabak Beach was meant to be a beach + hike trip, but the winding coastal roads got the best of Josh that day, so we just laid in the sun and played. Not all bad.
Our day on the Mediterranean included several swimming stops (one inside a cave!), Butterfly Valley (no butterflies this time of year) and St. Nicholas Island. We thought we’d stop to eat on the way home, saw a sign that said “döner,” as in kebabs and wraps, so pulled in. It actually said “dondurma” which is a kind of Turkish ice cream. Oh well, ice cream it is!
