We are doing what?

When Katie came down to my office and said, 'I think it's time we do our family gap year,' I gave it a few seconds thought and replied, 'Yes, I think you're right.' This quick and momentous decision was made sometime towards the end of summer in 2022.

Also, around this time, I had just come to admit to myself that I was a fairly anxious person, a revelation that would play a significant role in the journey we were about to embark on.

What I realize now is that a more truthful response at the time would have been, 'Okay. I think I'm going to need about 10 months to freak out and process our decision to willingly stop earning money for a year to travel the world.'

Over the course of the next year as we prepared ourselves, Katie was our steadfast leader while I fretted. Only after coming to peace with a year-long hiatus from work, was I able to match her excitement for our epic journey!
