Trains and rivers

Machu Picchu Pueblo, Peru

Our original Machu Picchu entrance tickets are dated a week ago yesterday; our new tickets are dated today. Yesterday I stood in line for 4 1/2 hours just for the possibility of buying tickets for tomorrow…and got in! As I waited, I wondered if this might be an over-hyped attraction. What’s so great about it? Is it worth the travel, the cost, and all the waiting? I hope so.

The boys and I took a looong, 15-hour bus ride from Arequipa to Cusco on Sunday, then spent a half day yesterday on a bus + train ride to Aguas Calientes. Leo said the half day travel felt like nothing in comparison - bonus!

The boys and I spent most of the train ride looking out the window at the Urubamba River; the train followed alongside it almost the whole way. Having just rafted class I, II, and III rapids on the Chilli River in Arequipa last week, we felt like seasoned experts and had fun imagining what rafting down the rapids of this river would feel like.
